Beckham and US Football

by AlvarezGalloso @ 2007-07-24 - 21:16:45

Ever since the announcement that Beckham would play for the LA Galaxy, many have thought about previous attempts to make football [soccer] more palatable to the public in the USA.

The people who have sneered at football [soccer] in the USA have been and still are an ignorant lot who fear the future. Many of them are in government and in the “Mainstream” Media.

Who cannot forget how the Anglo-Saxon Mainstream Media in America who loves to dictate to others what to wear, what to talk, what sports to play, what artists to listen to, and even how to talk. The only coverage of football [soccer] was by the US Latin Media. The” Mainstream” Media used that coverage to talk about a “Latin Invasion of the USA via Soccer” to spread ignorance, fear, and hatred.

Many people talk about a passing fad since football [soccer] has to compete with the likes of basketball, baseball, and American Football. There was one radio announcer who talked about hooliganism and corruption in football [soccer] while overlooking the fact that Pete Rose corrupted baseball, the NBA [National Basketball Association] is cooperating with the FBI in the investigation of a referee who may have fixed matches during the 2006-2007 NBA Season.

The NFL [American Football] has had its shares of scandals and High School American Football [as well as other sports] has had their share of hooliganism. Roberto once went to a High School American Football Game in Ohio in the early 1980’s and had to leave because of hooliganism. A Group of People came around with knives and axes and started attacking spectators. Who cannot forget the behaviour of NBA Players and NBA Fans during a shouting match turned into a moment in anarchy?

For those who do not support football [soccer] because they are ignorant, I respect their ignorance. For the powers that be, including a Mainstream Media that is out of touch with the rest of the world, Football [Soccer] is gaining ground. There are people who are playing it in the streets, in the hills, in the mountains, even in their backyard.

The change in demographics has also been helpful in this transition to football. The gradual change in attitude has also helped. The US Soccer Team has contributed as well. Who cannot forget the visit of Kristine Lilley and Company to the Demilitarized Zone separating the two Koreas when Kim Jong Il was testing his missiles?

Who cannot forget the charitable work of US Soccer and the MLS when it comes to giving soccer balls and promoting programmes in school and community centres like the YMCA or YWCA?

Now the so called “Mainstream” Media in America has decided to jump on the bandwagon. It is too late for them since they have been discredited in everything from sports to popular culture.

Beckham will take football to new heights and there exists a ray of hope that Beckham and Donovan will engineer a transition to a new generation of US Footballers which will help US Football shine just like other countries have shined!!!!!

Long Live the Second American Revolution which is the Football Revolution!!!!!!

George Phillies on Choice and Debates

Phillies: Government Has No Role
in a Woman's Right to Choose

In a forthcoming statement to be released by the George Phillies campaign, the Libertarian Presidential hopeful set aside the usual questions of personal ethics and philosophy that plague both sides of the choice/life political debate and cut to the heart of the matter.
"The government has no role in this matter."
Further, Phillies took the opportunity to condemn those who use violence to promote either the pro-choice or pro-life agenda. "People who bomb abortion clinics and churches are criminals who should be brought to justice."
Phillies emphasized that he personally is unequivocally pro-choice. "The government should not force women to bear children they do not want. Nor should it compel women to have abortions. The government should not encourage or discourage one choice over another." Phillies urged that decisions about medical care including pregnancy should be entirely between the patient and her doctors.
At the same time, Phillies recognized that many Americans have ethical objections to abortions and that they are deeply pained that their tax dollars go toward funding abortions. "We should not force opponents of abortion to pay for abortions."
Phillies contrasted his libertarian position with the positions of both his conservative and liberal opponents. "Republicans want Uncle Sam or fifty state governors in your bedroom, judging your private moral decisions. Democrats want the IRS in your bedroom, making you pay for other people's private moral decisions. Only Libertarians respect your privacy in your bedroom."

Iran Post AFC Asian Cup 2007

by AlvarezGalloso @ 2007-07-24 - 04:02:35

Iran after the AFC Asian Cup

Iran lost to South Korea in penalty shootouts after the normal time range left both teams without a score.

The same Iranian Team that defeated Malaysia appeared to have reached a point of fatigue in the last phase of the AFC Asian Cup. Iran missed its penalty kicks while South Korea was barely able to master them in order to advance.

The Iranians and South Koreans are evenly divided with Iran having defeated South Korea 4 to 3 in China 2004, South Korea defeating Iran 2 to 1 in Lebanon 2000, and Iran defeating South Korea 6 to 2 in the United Arab Emirates.

One person who may be affected is Amir Ghalenoei who may have to ponder his next move. His position as coach may be in doubt but at least he accepted responsibility for the defeat of the Iranian Team.

Iran has a powerhouse in football but they have forgotten to learn from their past victories in order to go to greater glory. It would have been better to see Iraq VS Iran than South Korea VS Iraq. Iraq VS Iran would have been the best football in the AFC Asian Cup.

It would be a mistake for Iran to remove Ghalenoei for Iran’s loss to South Korea. The National Iranian Football Team needs a steady leadership, consistency, and discipline in order to advance to the World Cup 2010. When Ghalenoei took over, the Iranian National Football Team was recovering from its defeat to Mexico during the World Cup of 2006. It must be remembered that rebuilding takes time and to remove Ghalenoei would be a fatal mistake in Iranian Football.

Roberto remembers the time he wanted the coach of the US Football Team removed for losing the Copa America 2007 only to be reminded that coaches after all are human.
