Countersummit between US and Canada Green Party

by AlvarezGalloso @ 2007-08-31 - 16:36:16

On Aug. 19th, a perfect late summer day in Ottawa, Canada, we joined our Canadian colleagues in a rally at the Parliament followed by a march to the U.S. and Mexican embassies to protest the Security and Prosperity Partnership (SPP) meeting of Bush, Calderon and Harper. A meeting the mainstream media in the U.S. has totally blacked out.

Later we attended the Council of Canadians Forum on the hidden consequences of the SPP Leaders summit in Montebello. More than 500 activist[S] heard Elizabeth May, Green Party of Canada leader, condemn the SPP and promote a vision of a more just and sustainable North America. In her talk she cited the ongoing changes in national environmental, health and labor regulations. These changes increase the number of chemicals permitted, lower standards and quality of life in many areas, such as food security, air safety, environmental norms, health care and labor rights. For example, Canada is
raising pesticide limits on hundreds of fruits and vegetables to merge its policies with the United States. And these changes are being made at the behest of transnational corporations. The SPP is about letting big businesses set their own rules and having the public bear all the environmental and health risks of a deregulated market.

On August 20th the Canadian Green Party organized a counter summit at which the USGP was represented by Justine McCabe and Julia Willebrand, Co-chairs of the USGP International Committee. Justine brought greetings from USGP and informed the meeting of the USGP position in opposition to SPP.

Julia was asked to present a US perspective on SPP. Since our Canadian colleagues are well aware of the dangers of a race to the bottom, they know that the SPP is about increasing corporate profits by limiting what governments can do to protect its citizens from corporate abuse. So as a cautionary tale, Julia presented a picture of the ongoing privatization of community resources and services occurring in the US. As one example she cited the ever-increasing prison population and the concomitant growth of private prisons in the US as a dangerous precedent Canadians would wish to avoid and which SPP could make possible.

Janet Eaton, GP Canada International Trade critic who first raised USGP member¹s awareness about the menace of SPP provided a vivid historical presentation of the initiation and development of SPP.

Her power point presentation can be seen at:
http://www.greenparty.ca/en/policy/documents/deeper_look_spp/dr_janet_eaton

Since the SPP is not a formal treaty or agreement between countries but instead an ongoing dialogue¹, it is not accountable to legislative oversight. Despite the fact that high-level government meetings, which
include CEOs of the largest corporations, have been held for three years, the mainstream media has rarely covered any aspect being planned and executed. Since the U.S. public is kept ignorant of these plans for its future it is effectively removed from the decision-making process. The Green Party of the US must change that by bringing the fact of this dangerous descent into fascism to public awareness.

Green Party USA only US Party to contribute to Martin Luther King Memorial

by AlvarezGalloso @ 2007-08-31 - 16:33:59

Thanks to DC Statehood Green T. E. Smith, the Green Party will now be listed among the organizations supporting the Martin Luther King, Jr. memorial to be built on the National Mall in Washington, DC. "I felt that it was important that the Green Party provide tangible support for this project. People of Color, particularly Black People, are ignored and taken for granted by the two corporate parties - except on election day. The Green Party platform supports racial justice, the Democrats have not come out in favor of reparations for slavery, but the Green Party has supported reparations since 1998. The only way people will know about this is if we work together to support projects like the MLK Memorial".

According to memorial organizers, the Green Party of the United States is the only political party to date to have made a financial contribution to the project. For more information about the MLK Memorial go to: http://www.mlkmemorial.org/

We Will Run

by AlvarezGalloso @ 2007-08-31 - 16:32:52

We Will Run
Green National Committee Proposal 305 the "We Will Run Resolution" passed with 113 yes votes, 10 no votes and 3 abstentions.

The resolution states in part that the Green Party will be conducting a contested presidential nomination process and that we will be nominating a presidential ticket at our 2008 convention. It also resolves to strengthen our eventual ticket by generating and applying resources to ensure, among other things, that we will maximize the number of ballot lines on which our nominees will appear.

Green Party Convention in Chicago

by AlvarezGalloso @ 2007-08-31 - 16:32:12

Delegates from state Green Parties and caucuses in the party's National Committee completed their vote Tuesday, August 28th, with Chicago taking the lead over Detroit, Minneapolis, and Oakland. Chicago's proposal can be read at http://www.greenconvention2008.com. The convention will take place July 10 to 13, 2008.

The Blackstone Hotel in Chicago has a storied political convention tradition. It's where many a political campaign set up headquarters during convention week. It was in "smoke-filled room" at the Blackstone where a deal was cut to end a deadlock that made Warren Harding the 1920 Republican nominee. And Eisenhower watched the 1952 Republican convention from his room at the Blackstone (the first time the networks covered a convention gavel-to-gavel). Over the years, it has hosted at least 12 presidents on their visits to Chicago.

Just as Greens are working to rehabilitate that old style of politics, the Blackstone Hotel is also undergoing a process of top-to-bottom renewal. When it reopens later this fall, the Blackstone will be the most green-friendly hotel in the city, complete with a green roof. And when it opens this Fall the Blackstone will be non-smoking and a union shop.

One of the city's recognizable landmarks located in the heart of Chicago, the Chicago Theatre would be a spectacular setting for the convention. It would allow us to put the "Green Party" name on one of the most eye-catching, most photographed marquees in the city, and it's sure to be noticed by the thousands of residents and tourists alike. The Chicago Theatre is located directly on transit lines, close to everything, and is one of the larger venues which we could pack with up to 3,600 enthusiastic delegates, observers and media. The Chicago Theatre is also a union shop.

The combination of the world-class Blackstone Hotel and the historic Chicago Theatre will help the Green Party to attract celebrity guest speakers?not to mention the media?for our events and fundraisers.

In 2006, the Illinois Green Party did what many pundits said was impossible. Greens got on the ballot in one of the worst states for ballot access. Green candidates broke through to the media to receive more coverage than ever, even earning the endorsements of several major newspapers throughout the state. And the Green candidate for governor, Rich Whitney, was the choice of more than 350,000 voters, 10% statewide, twice the percentage needed to establish the party for the next four years!

Health Care in America

by AlvarezGalloso @ 2007-08-31 - 16:19:13

In the era of Modern Medicine; in a Country that has turned back time in Health Care, the USA Health Care Industry has been dominated by the Insurance Companies.

The Insurance Companies in theory were supposed to protect the patients but in reality has turned into an uncontrollable monster that chooses the Physician and the Hospitals for the patient. The patient has no control over what he or she does.

The Insurance Companies in the USA while private are actually controlled by the governing elite of the USA called the Republicans, Democrats and their friends in Wall Street and Washington DC.

The Insurance Companies in the USA have committed crimes against humanity such as neglecting an extension of hospital stay to a patient with Gangrene after an operation of the Abdominal Aorta. This was the case of the State of California Insurance Company Medi Cal that refused to authorize additional treatments for a 70 year old lady who suffered from Leriche’s Syndrome [Occlusion of the Abdominal Aorta]. The lady in question was unceremoniously discharged and had to be readmitted in order to have her lower extremities amputated. This is the Medicine that is practiced in the Land of the Republicans and Democrats.

The Insurance Companies in the USA refused to pay for childbirth in a hospital but was willing to pay for a birth at home. The lady eventually suffered health problems which resulted in a still birth. The Insurance Company called United Health Care was the subject of a lawsuit by the lady Ms. Corcoran. This lawsuit ended up in the US Supreme Court. The US Supreme Court ruled in favour of Corcoran and against United Health Care with the following statement: “Insurance Companies should be held liable for making Medical Decisions”.

This struggle between Patients, Health Care Professionals, and the Insurance Companies [as well as their patrons called the Republicans and Democrats] is not over. It will continue to play out until Insurance Companies and their patrons are brought before an International Tribune for Crimes against Humanity and are made to pay restitution. It is the responsibility of people to know about the need for simplification by going back to the relationship between Physician and Patient.

Le Guen & The Rangers

by AlvarezGalloso @ 2007-08-30 - 19:42:56

With the start of the football season in Scotland, the time has come to reappraise the Rangers under Paul Le Guen.

Questions that have been posed are:
1. Why has Le Guen been a success in French Football but a failure with the Rangers?
2. Was Le Guen to blame for his problems with the Rangers or did the Rangers undermine his leadership and his plans for the team?

The first question may have been easier to answer since the BBC Website was negative in its assessment of Le Guen and the French Football Association Website painted him as a brilliant manager.

An attempt has been made to communicate with Mr. Le Guen via the Paris St. Germaine Website. The Rangers have also received a set of questions from Roberto in their website. In order to understand Le Guen and the Rangers, a biographical and professional report on Le Guen is in order.

His Life and Playing Career

Paul Le Guen was born on the 1st of March 1964 in Pencran, Brittany, France. He started his career as a player with the Club AS Brest in 1982. He continued his playing career with various clubs such as Stade Brest 29, FC Nantes Atlantique, and Paris Saint Germaine FC. He retired from playing football in 1998 after his team in Brittany finished in a draw against Cameroon.

During his time as a player, he won 17 caps for FC Nantes Atlantique and Paris Saint Germaine and made 17 appearances for the French National Team.

He was also victorious for the Paris St Germaine FC in the French Cup 1993, 1995, and 1998; The French League Cup 1995 & 1998; and The Cup of Cups in 1994. Mr. Le Guen was also a finalist for Paris St Germaine in Cup of Cups and the SuperCup of Europe in 1997.

Mr. Le Guen’s 17 appearances for the French National Team were between the years 1993 to 1995 which was marked by ten victories, two losses, and draws out of seventeen games. Mr. Le Guen’s appearances for the French National Team were also marked by injuries and missing out on the opportunity to play in the World Cup 1994 in the USA.

Managerial Career

Rennes

Mr. Le Guen started his career as a Manager with the Rennes Football Club. During his period with Rennes from 1998 to 2001, he signed unknown players such as Shabani Nonda and El Hadji Diouf and developed them into talented players. His period of Rennes ended in 2001 after a clash with the board of Rennes

After leaving Rennes, he took a one year sabbatical leave to recharge his energy and think about his future.

Olympique Lyonnais

He returned in 2002 from his leave of absence to become manager of Olympique Lyonnais. In the beginning, Olympique Lyonnais won three out of their first nine games but eventually were able to obtain three consecutive championships and reach the quarter finals of the UEFA Championship League. After winning the fourth consecutive championship league for Olympqie Lyonnais, Le Guen resigned as Manager in 2005.

Again, Mr. Le Guen took another one year leave from managing football clubs. He refused offers from Benfica, Lazio, and Paris Saint Germaine.

Rangers

On the 11th of March 2006, David Murray announced that Le Guen would replace Alex Mc Leish as Manager with a three year contract. Murray talked about a “massive moonbeam of success”. What happened appeared to be a “kiss of death” for the Rangers and Le Guen. Le Guen could not repeat the success he had in France. There were conflicts with Rangers Management and Supporters.

The Rangers under Le Guen suffered from inconsistency with elimination from Scottish League Cup by St. Johnstone and qualification for the UEFA. St. Johnstone eliminating the Rangers was a historical first in Scottish League History since a Lower League Team eliminated Rangers in their home base.

The Rangers had their worst performance in the 2006-2007 season under Le Guen with clashes between Le Guen VS Ferguson, and Le Guen VS Rangers supporters being the order of the day.

Finally, things became heated when Le Guen removed Ferguson as Captain on the 1st of January 2007. The Rangers FC Supporters were enraged and protested during the away match at Motherwell on the 2nd of January 2007.

Le Guen finally had enough and announced his resignation as manager on the 4th of January 2007 before the end of the 2006-2007 season. Murray announced that the departure was by mutual consent.

After leaving the Rangers, Le Guen accepted the post of First Team Coach at Paris Saint Germaine on the 17th of January 2007

Conclusion

Le Guen refused to be interviewed by Roberto. Whatever opinion Roberto might have about Le Guen will be left for the readers to decide based on Le Guen’s attitude.

The Rangers did not answer Roberto’s Invitation for an Interview. Regardless, there was a personality conflict between Le Guen and the Rangers. For Le Guen to force Rangers to his way of thinking and discipline was a recipe for disaster. Le Guen should have studied the Rangers culture before embarking on a job with them.

The Rangers [like all Football Clubs] have a responsibility to study the lives and times of the people who are going to be their managers. The same applies if a person wants to take over the football club. It is always better to be safe than to be sorry.

Zambia & Zimbabwe [ENG] [ESP]

by AlvarezGalloso @ 2007-08-29 - 18:36:32

Zimbabwe and Zambia have signed an agreement which would include a strengthening of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Further agreements included integration into the SADC [Southern Africa Development Council] and and COMESA [Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa].

Another part of the agreement has to do with the establishment of a one stop border post in Chirundu. This news may not bode well for those who want change in Zimbabwe since Southern Africa has to play a role in initiating changes. Only time will tell what will happen.

Antonio Puerta 1984-2007 [ESP]

by AlvarezGalloso @ 2007-08-29 - 13:50:11

QEPD.

Antonio Puerta 1984-2007

by AlvarezGalloso @ 2007-08-29 - 13:45:09

It has come to the attention of Roberto about the untimely death of Antonio Puerta after a massive heart attack during Sevilla's Game against Getafe.

Antonio Puerta was born in 1984 and started his football career at the age of 14.During his short but illsutrious football career, he attracted the attention of teams such as Arsenal, Manchester United, and Real Madrid.

His career was based in Sevilla where has five goals in fifty three appearances and one appearance with the Spanish National Team.

His death due to a myocardial infarction is a shock to all sports lovers especially football. He will be sorely missed. At the present time, Roberto turned off the CD Player in his office to observe thirty minutes of silence.

Alberto Gonzales

by AlvarezGalloso @ 2007-08-27 - 16:38:50

It has come to my attention that Alberto Gonzales resigned. I have decided to recycle an article written earlier about Alberto Gonzales.

Since Alberto Gonzales resigned, the time has come to ask the US Government to resign and make way for a Multiracial Multi ethnic Libertarian Green Government via a Constituent Assembly.

Alberto Gonzales was targeted since he was a US Born Latin and the Powers of Congress and the House of Representative are White Anglo Saxon Racists.

Alberto Gonzales was born and raised in Texas. He played by the rules of the USA and obeyed every command from his superiors. This is taking into account the spite of accusations by White Anglo-Saxons who call themselves American, robbed half of Mexican Territory, and committed acts of genocide against the indigenous people of the USA and then have the gall to say "be American".

Alberto Gonzales tried to ride out the storm but he was crucified. As a result, the rest of Washington should resign.

In fact, I have just decided to expose Washington for the farce it is. Attorney Generals Janet Reno, John Ashcroft and previous Attorney Generals abused their positions. Congressional Politicians such as Chenowith abused their position by having sex in the Idaho Room and there was no potato in her vagina. Hyde and Burton committed adultery in the Capitol. All of these people hypocritically painted themselves as "saints and saviours of the nation".

What about Hillary Clinton and other Democrats who voted for war in Iraq, campaigned for a withdrawal, and now have done an about face?

What about the smear campaign that the Republicans and Democrats did against Cindy Sheehan, The Greens, The Libertarians. It is easy to preach human rights abroad and repress it at home.

Conclusion:

With Alberto Gonzales resignation, the entire government from the President to the Council Members of any municipality in the territory of the USA should resign and be replaced by a Constituent Assembly which will reinforce the Constitution with term limits for everyone, getting out of entangling alliances, making government work like a business but with Libertarians and Greens directing the orientation of the USA.

We as US Citizens should also do the work of Undocumented Workers and start encouraging marriages between US Citizens without regard to race and ethnicity [at least that part is beginning to happen].

Puerta Con Infarto

by AlvarezGalloso @ 2007-08-26 - 22:15:27

Puerta Suffers Heart Attack

by AlvarezGalloso @ 2007-08-26 - 21:55:49

Antonio Puerta suffered a heart attack during Sevilla's Game against Getafe. Puerta is 22 years old.

Roberto is with Sevilla and Puerta's Family as he is undergoing treatment in an intensive care unit. It does not help [himself or football] that he has had similar situation but it was great that Sevilla's Doctor and the Red Cross were able to stabilize him before being sent to the hospital. This might have saved his life.

It is important that the teams look after the health and welfare of their players. The players themselves have to accept responsability for their health and accept their limitations. This also includes not overloading one self.

It is hoped that this incident serve as a lesson for those playing football on a professional or amateur basis. Remember another thing, since heart attacks can be associated with heat stroke; drink plenty of fluids including water.

Civil War in Guadalajara [ENG]

by AlvarezGalloso @ 2007-08-26 - 04:22:21

The game started with a goal by Chivas of Guadalajara which made Roberto very happy but anxious because of a fear of an equalizer. The second goal of the game which was an equalizing goal by Atlas made Roberto very angry that he screamed, the blood boiled in his arteries and veins and he accidentally kicked the legs of his bed. The result was a big haematoma in the second digit of his right foot.

At least justice was served with bookings being administered to some of the Atlas Players. One of the bookings lead to a kick from Ramon Morales which lead to a third goal. Roberto jumped for joy and his daughter told him to lower the volume of the TV. Roberto responded by increasing the volume and screaming even louder.

The celebration continued although Roberto was angered at the injustices of the referees against Chivas of Guadaljara. His anger produced more blood boiling in the body to the point of a spontaneous rupture of the haematoma. Regardless, he continued watching the game while curing the haematoma.

Finally, the smile and the celebrations came in as Chivas won the day. Chivas of Guadalajara has shown itself do be good at this time with a consistent play while Atlas proved itself to be a sore player and a sore loser.

Chivas 3-1 Atlas
Chivas: 8/10
Atlas: 2/10
