After Argentina lost to Brazil, Roberto decided to undergo research on what has happened to Argentina. The burning question has been: Why has Argentina not won the Copa America in the last fourteen years?
Roberto decided to ask the Argentine Football Association and Diego Maradona this question. They did not answer Roberto’s request for an interview concerning this subject. The same applied with certain radio and television personalities.
Of course, Maradona had time for an interview with the US Latin Station Univision, TyC Sports in Argentina, and EFE [Spain] after being discharged from a Psychiatric Hospital. In this interview; he praised Riquelme, expressed a desire to coach the Argentine National Team while trashing it and Boca Juniors at the same time.
Regardless, Roberto took it upon himself to go to forums in to find the answer to the question: Why has Argentina not won the Copa America in the last fourteen years?
The answer varied from: “Wait for the next Copa”, “No Hope”, “Learn from Brazil”, and “Argentina does shows but it does not make for games”.
The article by Admin in Socca Critics titled: “Why Argentina Lost The Copa America Final” as well as some DVDs showing Argentina losing in various Copa Americas was the answer to Roberto’s Burning Question.
1. Ayala who is an experienced defender for the Argentine National Team allowed Baptista to goal early when he should have gone closer to Baptista on a fast scale. Ayala was the same person who gained notoriety in Argentina by scoring the second goal into Brazil’s Net.
2. Argentina also suffered from a weak central defence and a lack of coordination which was favourable for the opposing teams. These are things which can be remedied by reinforcing the defence and coordinating attacks and offences in order to gain possession of the game and win.
3. Clash of Personalities: Members of the Argentina Football League were more interested in the showmanship instead of playing a game to win. Showmanship cannot help if the game is lost. Many players wanted stardom and fought each other on and off the set. This was appreciated in Argentine TV watched by Roberto on the internet.
4. The Fatigue shown in the field as Argentina appeared to be playing just simply to finish the game and go home. This self defeating attitude does not work. The team should play to win and when that fails, at least give it the best they have.
5. Argentina appears to be thinking about past glories in the present tense. This is interfering with the performance of Argentina’s team. Argentina has to look to the future.
6. Stop relying on one person and start working as a team. There was too much obsession with Riquelme and Cambiasso which was sickening and has been detrimental to Argentina.
7. Maradona appears to have remained a shadow in Argentine Football. While he has been great in the past, he has become a liability for football in Argentina. Maradona admitted in his television programme on the 22nd of August 2005 that his first goal against England during the World Cup of 1986 was illegitimate since he hit the ball with his hand. Maradona also called on his teammates to embrace him otherwise the “referees would not believe” him.
After careful investigation, Roberto has decided to give a piece of advice to the Argentine National Football Team: “Get Real!!!!”
