FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

In Memoriam: Aaron Russo

Libertarians across the United States mourn the passing of producer and longtime Libertarian party activist Aaron Russo. Mr. Russo succumbed early Friday morning after a long battle with cancer. He was 64.

Producer of several documentaries, recordings and Academy Award nominated films including "The Rose" starring Bette Midler, Mr. Aaron is also credited with bringing Led Zeppelin to the United States in 1968.

"Mr. Russo was an enthusiastic supporter of liberty and a great Libertarian," said Libertarian Presidential candidate George Phillies. " It was my great privilege to work with his 2004 Presidential campaign as his national volunteer mobilizer. His wonderful energy and enthusiasm inspired and encouraged so many loyal Libertarians, fine people who worked vigorously for his nomination."

After the 2004 nominating convention, Russo put his considerable talents as a producer to work to promote awareness of the Libertarian party and Michael Badnarik. The television commercials he produced brought the Badnarik 2004 campaign to millions of Americans from Maine to Hawaii.

"Aaron Russo was a wonderful defender of freedom," continued Dr. Phillies. "He worked tirelessly to bring the Libertarian party's message of peace, freedom and prosperity to Americans. He will be missed."

Weidenfeller Banned

by AlvarezGalloso @ 2007-08-25 - 03:28:38

Roman Weidenfeller who is the keeper for the Borussia Dortmund Team has been fined $13,500 and banned from three games by the German Football Federation.

The reason was for his racially abusive comments toward Gerald Asamoah who was born in Ghana but raised in Germany.

Even though Weidenfeller apologized and stated that he said his statements out of a “heated anger of the moment”, the German Football Federation did the correct thing in punishing Weidenfeller.

Football is a sport for people to enjoy but it appears that hooligans, racists, and non partial referees ruin the game for the majority of people who love the sport. For those who say that combating racism in football is pointless, football must never tolerate the hooligans or racists in its midst. Football should tolerate the referees who are not partial without games.

It is hoped that Roberto would not have to write about racial and hooligan incidents but as long as they appear, there should be a report, exposure, punishment so as to set an example. Otherwise, we can say good bye to the sport that we so love.

In closing, Roberto states: Say No To Racism and Hooliganism in Football. Say Yes to Brotherhood [even Sisterhood] in Football.
