History in Tropical Park

by AlvarezGalloso @ 2007-09-03 - 02:59:58

Miami Florida was the scene of two events, Miami FC playing against the Charleston Battery in the last game of their season and the first time Roberto has seen a live game in his life. It took him 45 years to go to a live game but better late than never.

Prelude

Roberto went with his father to the Miami FC VS Charleston Battery Game where both were received warmly by the staff at Miami FC. Roberto even received a souvenir book for himself, a T Shirt for his wife, and School Supplies for his Daughter.

Both teams were warming up and finally the game began. The stadium and its surrounding was a place for families to gather for the last few days of the unofficial summer season. The stadium itself had a play area that was like a little hill.

Actual Game

The first few minutes were agonizing for Roberto and the rest of the spectators as Charleston had possession of the ball and the game with two goals. Roberto was able to contain his emotions due to the presence of security guards. There were security guards keeping an eye on some people who almost got out of line and that was a great detail.

There were impatience with the referees but regardless, Roberto wanted to enjoy time with his father and this game was a way to enjoy.

While all appeared lost, the loud speakers belted out Celia Cruz [Cuban Singer] Song called: “Ella Tiene Tumbao” and Queens: “We Will Rock You”. At the stroke of the moment, Miami FC equalized to the delight of the spectators including Roberto.

Many people [including Roberto] were inspired and awed by the kicks of the Miami FC Goalkeeper and the struggle between Miami FC and Charleston Battery to break the equalizer. It was important that the Miami FC win this game in order to finish their season with dignity taking into account that they were in tenth place in the US Football League.

Finally with Mosquera substituting and with the game winding down, Mosquera scored the winning goal for Miami FC. The spectators [including Roberto] was happy.

Opinion

Roberto will let the photos speak for him. There are photos of the actual game, the cheerleaders, and the stadium itself with some self portraits during the game. Roberto and his father enjoyed the game and the time to converse football with Roberto explaining some of the basics.

The reason Roberto has been unable to attend has been many: distance, economics, trying to finish his studies, and raise a family. After making so many sacrifices in his life, it was inevitable that Roberto would find refuge in football and the Miami FC.

Roberto would like to extend his thanks to the Miami FC for the game and a memory of a lifetime. Roberto would also like to thank the readers of the Alvarez-Galloso News Hour for allowing him to report about this very important game.

Miami FC 3-2 Charleston Battery

Miami FC: 8/10
Charleston Batter: 2/10
