FROM THE LIBERTARIAN PARTY:
Fight fires, not freedom says Libertarian Party

Party condemns use of firefighters as domestic spies

Quick Quotes:
Shane Cory, Executive Director, Libertarian Party
• "The idea that firefighters should be trained to sniff out would-be terrorists is a perverse corruption of one of America's most honored professions."
• "We're turning firefighters, who are a symbol of heroism in America, into symbols of an oppressive government."

Andrew Davis, Media Coordinator, Libertarian Party
• "Since when did discontent with the policies or management of the United States government become grounds for suspicion of terrorism? Is there honestly any American who is content with the way things are currently going?"

Washington, D.C. - The Libertarian Party says firefighters should not be used as domestic spies, and the current Department of Homeland Security training program to do this should be scrapped immediately. "The Department of Homeland Security is turning American heroes into government spies," says Libertarian Party Executive Director, Shane Cory.

"The idea that firefighters should be trained to sniff out would-be terrorists is a perverse corruption of one of America's most honored professions," said Cory. "We're taking guys that were the heroes of 9/11, and turning them into domestic spies. The Bush administration should be ashamed at how out of touch they are with the American public in pursuing their so-called 'War on Terror.'"

Last week, an AP story written by Eileen Sullivan broke the news that the DHS was training firefighters in New York City to look for "signs of planning and support for terrorism," as well as anything "expressing hate or discontent with the United States." The program, if found to be successful, would then be tried in other cities. Items of suspicion are to include "ammunition, firearms or weapons," along with video equipment, night vision goggles, and other Constitutionally protected items.

"Well, I just hope I never have to call the fire department," says Libertarian Party Media Coordinator Andrew Davis. "The fact that I have firearms, video equipment and am member of a pro-liberty organization apparently puts me on the government's radar as a suspected terrorist. Since when did discontent with the policies or management of the United States government become grounds for suspicion of terrorism? Is there honestly any American who is content with the way things are currently going?"

This new program is very similar to a 2002 program instituted by the Bush administration that encouraged workers who regularly access private dwellings, such as letter carriers, to report behavior they thought to be suspicious. Unlike police, firefighters do not have to have warrants to enter private property.

"We're turning firefighters, who are a symbol of heroism in America, into symbols of an oppressive government," Cory concluded. "Have we really gone this far?"

The Libertarian Party is America's third largest political party, founded in 1971 as an alternative to the two main political parties. A Tale of Two Clubs

by AlvarezGalloso @ 2007-12-03 - 20:44:37

A TALE OF TWO CLUBS

There is one club that is in danger of going into administration while another is being saved by a purchase.

Coventry City is in negotiations with Ray Ranson and Sisu Capital to save it. It involves the reality that Coventry City has a debt of 37 M Pound Sterlings and that it could go into administration. If this were to happen, Coventry City may be deducted 10 points in the Football League Championship Table.

It is important that Coventry City, Ranson, and Sisu Capital resolve their differences and the sooner the better. It would be a pity to lose Coventry City or any other football clubs. Maybe Coventry City can learn from the supporters of Scarborough Athletic.

This is not the case in the Ipswich Town which will be taken over by Marcus Evans with Evans receiving an 87.5% interest in the club. Another part of the deal will be the injection of much needed cash and the removal of its debts.

Ipswich Town may have handled its finances with Marcus Evans. The only thing that is needed is that Marcus Evans uses his ownership of Ipswich Town for the good of the club and their supporters. In this I have full confidence. I also hope that Ipswich Town could make a return to the Premier League.
