Owen to the Rescue/Owen Al Rescate

by AlvarezGalloso @ 2008-01-09 - 21:38:26

It appears that Luton FC has been having problems unrelated to football with irregular payments, and being placed into administration. It suffered the indignity of being docked ten points in its League.

The staff of Luton FC has had to fall behind on their mortgage payments and have had to take a cut in salary with people leaving. Last but not least, Luton FC is on sale without any prospective buyers until now.

Nick Owen who is a presenter of BBC Midlands Today is presenting a plan to rescue Luton FC from the fate of many football clubs that have folded. Nick Owen with his consortium of Local and International Businessmen have initiated a bid to buy Luton FC. It appears that he may be successful.

I hope Nick Owen is successful in saving Luton FC. At a time when nothing is sacred, Nick Owen is proof that there are people who love Football and their team. I applaud his decision to help save Luton FC and hope for its success..

Luton FC and Nick Owen are in the thoughts and prayers of this English Football Supporter living in Miami Florida.

Best Wishes for The New England Patriots

by AlvarezGalloso @ 2008-01-09 - 17:28:51

There are experts in American Football who are talking about an emerging football dynasty and equate the New England Patriots with this kind of talk.

Personally, I do not view the New England Patriots as an emerging dynasty but as one of the greatest football teams at the present time in the NFL.

It will not be a surprise if the New England Patriots win all of their playoff games and receive the Super Bowl. With this victory in the Super Bowl 2008, The New England Patriots will be the second team after the Miami Dolphins to have a perfect season.

While I am writing this article, I would like to express my congratulations to Tom Brady for being named the NFL Offensive Player of the Year. I would also like to express my congratulations for the New England Patriots on having a great offensive player such as Tom Brady. While a supporter of the Miami Dolphins, it was a crime that the Miami Dolphins rejected a great player of such caliber like Tom Brady.

The New England Patriots have arrived where they are at due to many factors. The discipline and organization of the team is well known and was further reinforced by Bill Parcells. It was also instrumental in helping the New England Patriots win four Super Bowls Number XX, XXXVI, XXXVIII, and XXXIX.

The success of the New England Patriots off the field deserves a special mention with the New England Patriots Charitable Foundation. The New England Patriots Charitable Foundation has helped various charitable organizations in education, health, and family.

The New England Patriots have come a long way from their humble beginnings on the 16th of November 1959. They deserve their Super Bowl Victory and New England should be proud of this illustrious and prestigious team for their work on and off the field.

The only thing left from this Miami Dolphin fan is to extend his best wishes to the New England Patriots and their supporters in the Play Offs and Super Bowl 2008.

News from Congressman Wexler about Impeaching Cheney

by AlvarezGalloso @ 2008-01-09 - 03:55:03

Dear Roberto Carlos,
Many thousands of you have asked to learn more about my position on the Iraq war and related funding. As you may know, a few weeks ago I voted again to deny funding without a timetable.

I am bothered by the recent movement to repackage the Surge as a success. Today, I released an editorial (below and also published on the Daily Kos) regarding my view of the Surge's so-called "success." If you have a moment, please read it when you get a chance.

Thank you again for your support.

Congressman Robert Wexler

A Surge of More Lies
by Congressman Robert Wexler

A new troubling myth has taken hold in Washington and it is critical that the record is set straight. According to the mainstream media, Republicans, and unfortunately even some Democrats, the President's surge in Iraq has been a resounding success. In fact, nothing could be further from the truth.

This assertion is disingenuous, factually incorrect, and negatively impacts America's national security. The Surge had a clear and defined objective - to create stability and security - enabling the Iraqi government to enact lasting political solutions and foster genuine reconciliation and cooperation between Sunnis, Shias, and Kurds.

This has not happened.
There has been negligible political progress in Iraq, and we are no closer to solving the complex problems - including a power sharing government, oil revenue agreement and new constitution - than we were before the Administration upped the ante and sent 30,000 more troops to Iraq.

Too many Democrats in Congress are again surrendering to General Petraeus and have failed to challenge the Bush Administration's claims that the surge has been successful. In fact -- it is just the opposite.

The reduction in violence in Iraq has exposed the continuing failure of Iraqi officials to solve their substantial political rifts. By President Bush's own stated goal of political progress, the Surge has failed.

Of course raising troop levels has increased security - a strategy the Bush administration ignored when presented by General Shinseki before the war in Iraq began - but the fundamental internal Iraqi problems remain and the factors that were accelerating the civil war in 2007 have simply been put on hold.

The military progress is a testament to the patience and dedication of our brave troops - even in the face of 15 month-long deployments followed by insufficient Veteran's health services when they return home. They have performed brilliantly - despite the insult of having President Bush recently veto a military spending bill that enhanced funding and benefits, and increased care.

Despite the efforts of American soldiers, the surge alone cannot bring about the political solutions needed to end centuries of sectarian divide.

As it stands, little on the ground supports the assertion that Iraqis are ready to stand up and govern themselves. Too few Iraqi troops are trained, equipped and combat ready, and they cannot yet provide adequate security. Loyalty is also an issue in the Iraqi army as Al Queda and Sunni insurgents infliltrate their defense forces. The consequences turned deadly just recently when an Iraqi soldier purposely killed two U.S. troops.

On the streets of Baghdad and Mosul, the Sunni and Shia factions have paused their fighting, awaiting guarantees and protections that have not yet been delivered. As Iraqi refugees return, there is no mechanism to help them rebuild their lives, nor recover their now-occupied homes. Neighborhoods once mixed are now segregated.

In Northern Iraq, Kurdish terrorists conducting nefarious operations across the border into Turkey have compelled our NATO ally to strike at bases, inflaming tensions between Baghdad and Ankara.

The surge is working? We suffered more U.S. casualties in 2007 than in any other year of the war. We can't afford any more of this type of success.

How can we create the situation that is most likely to deliver political progress in Iraq? Not by continuing the surge and occupation. Our best chance (there is no guarantee) is by putting real pressure on the Iraqi government to force action. Telling the national and local Iraqi leaders that we are withdrawing our troops can help accomplish this goal. Today, the majority Iraqi Shia government led by Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki has little incentive to act when American troops remain in the country to provide security and stability.

Based on the Administration's plan, John McCain's proposal of a 100-year US occupation could be a reality!

The Democratic Congress must act aggressively to first cut off funding for the surge and then the entire war. Many of my colleagues avoided a showdown with the administration because they mistakenly believed such a fight would endanger the safety of the troops.

In fact, we must accept that every soldier killed or injured in the coming months should have already been home. Every billion dollars of war-appropriations we spend from here on should have been spent on genuine priorities here at home such as children's heath care.

Enough is enough: While the Administration over-commits American forces in Iraq, we see Al Qaeda-regrouping and Osama Bin Laden still at large. We remain seriously bogged down in Afghanistan, and are witnessing a crisis in Pakistan that has left a nuclear country on the brink of a meltdown. America's resources and attention are desperately needed elsewhere and our soldiers must no longer be needlessly sacrificed as we wait for Iraqis to stand up.

The Surge has failed. If my colleagues gullibly accept the moving rationale for the Surge, just as so many have for the war itself, we will have failed as well.

FROM THE LIBERTARIAN PARTY:
Libertarian Party off to a strong start for 2008 races

Out-files and out-raises all national third parties

Quick Quotes:
Shane Cory, Executive Director, Libertarian Party
• "We're coming off a 28 percent membership increase, and we're out-raising all other national third parties combined."
• "The Libertarian Party has done very well at the local level by getting many of our candidates elected and creating more competition in election cycles. The major two-parties can no longer ignore the impact of libertarians on politics."

Wes Benedict, Executive Director, Libertarian Party of Texas
• "I think we had to work harder to get 210 candidates for the 2008 elections. Many Texas Libertarians are focused on Ron Paul's campaign for president."

Washington, D.C. - Following a successful off-year election, where approximately one in five Libertarians won the races in which they competed, the Libertarian Party looks to make a strong impact in the 2008 election. "We finished strong in 2007, and we look to do well in 2008," says Shane Cory, executive director of the Libertarian Party.

"We're coming off a 28 percent membership increase, and we're out-raising all other national third parties combined," says Cory. "You can expect big things from the Libertarian Party in 2008."

Current Federal Election Commission reports indicate that the Libertarian Party out-fundraised all national third parties combined in 2007. Additionally, the Libertarian Party expects to be on the 2008 ballot in at least 48 states--more than any other third party.

The Libertarian Party of Texas, in the first state in the nation to file candidates, submitted 210 candidates for the 2008 election. For the first time, Libertarian candidates filed for every statewide race. Libertarians filed for 30 of the 32 U.S. House seats, 12 of the 15 Texas Senate seats (a record 80 percent), 102 of the 150 Texas House seats (a record 68 percent), and five of the seven State Board of Education seats (a record 71 percent).

"In 2006, 218 candidates filed with the Libertarian Party of Texas," says Libertarian Party of Texas Executive Director Wes Benedict. "I think we had to work harder to get 210 candidates for the 2008 elections. Many Texas Libertarians are focused on Ron Paul's campaign for president."

"What's remarkable about the slate of candidates in Texas is that they all come during the time that Ron Paul, a libertarian Congressman from Texas, is running for President as a Republican," says Sean Haugh, the Libertarian Party political director. "All the libertarians who switched their voter registration to Republican in order to vote for Paul in the primary made themselves ineligible to run as a Libertarian in the 2008 election."

Recent surges in Libertarian Party membership and the success of Ron Paul's campaign indicate a rise of libertarian philosophy among American voters. The Libertarian Party expects this so-called "libertarian rising" to translate into higher vote totals, which will elect more candidates and determine the outcome of more races across the nation.

The Libertarian Party ran more than 650 candidates in 2006 elections, and garnered more than 13.4 million votes for candidates around the nation.

"We're hoping Texas sets the standard that the rest of our state affiliates will follow," says Cory. "The Libertarian Party has done very well at the local level by getting many of our candidates elected and creating more competition in election cycles. The major two parties can no longer ignore the impact of libertarians on politics."

The Libertarian Party is America's third largest political party, founded in 1971 as an alternative to the two main political parties. You can find more information on the Libertarian Party by visiting www.lp.org. The Libertarian Party proudly stands for smaller government, lower taxes and more freedom.

GUEVARA
