Dear Friend,

There is no better word than friend to describe each and every one of you who worked so hard and contributed so much to ensure our victory at the Libertarian National Convention. Without your generous efforts we could not have won.

I am extremely grateful and proud to consider you among my closest of friends.

Our convention victory was a considerable challenge. It took six rounds of voting to decide the nomination.

We faced an array of honorable candidates who are truly dedicated to the cause of liberty. I was proud to sit on the debate stage with all of my esteemed colleagues. The other candidates waged a valiant battle for the Libertarian Party nomination, and I'd like to commend each and every one of them for conducting such efforts.

As tough as this challenge was, we have a much tougher one facing us over the next five months. Our new adversaries are not the honorable colleagues we faced in Denver. We cannot expect the Republican and Democratic parties to play by the rules or be committed to the cause of liberty. We have to be prepared for ballot access challenges, media distortions, and direct smears aimed at the libertarian movement and the Libertarian Party.

Typically, the mainstream media and the major parties ignore independent and third party campaigns. Sometimes, as with Ross Perot, they can't. This year the media has bought into the idea that Senator McCain owns some votes and I'll take them from him. The very fact the media repeats that story ensures we will be in the news constantly.

With the increased media attention and your hard work we are on the move, upward! How high we are able to Raise the Barr for Liberty is up to you…

Because of the groundwork Libertarian Party activists, donors and candidates have laid, we have a great start on ballot access. However, the national party only anticipated 48 state ballot access. Despite the extreme hurdles in Oklahoma and challenges in West Virginia, we'd like to ensure fifty-state ballot access plus the District of Columbia. The Republicans and Democrats will try everything possible to keep us off the ballot. If we are to succeed, we need your volunteer and financial support.

Because of the foundation Ron Paul, Libertarian Party activists, donors and LP candidates have laid, we have a great start on spreading the message of liberty. Many people have awakened to the message of liberty for the first time because of all of our efforts. Others have become re-engaged in the process of liberty because of our efforts. In order to ensure that every single American is exposed to the message of liberty, it is crucial that we volunteer our time and our hard-earned money.
Because of the unique circumstances surrounding this election cycle, we may be facing the "perfect storm" many freedom-minded Americans have dreamed of for decades. We have a record level of disenchantment with the two major parties right now. We have a record level of dissatisfaction with the direction America is heading. The only thing lower than the President's abysmal polling numbers are Congress' approval numbers.
With government spending out of control and the dollar falling, America is swiftly headed for economic hard times. And they just don't get it in Washington.
It's by no coincidence that people like Ross Perot's former campaign manager Russ Verney and policy expert Doug Bandow are on board with this campaign. It's no coincidence that people like you are on board with this campaign.

Because of the foundation you have laid and the unique circumstances of this election cycle, we are in it to win it - but the challenges are certainly tremendous. This means that we need your most professional efforts on the ground as well as your immediate financial assistance.
I know that most of you haven't had a chance to catch your breath or catch up on your sleep since the convention in Denver -- I certainly haven't. Please take a day to relax, hug your children, go out to dinner with your loved ones -- because the coming days, weeks, and months are going to be rough -- AND exciting.
In the meantime, if you haven't already, please take a few short moments to sign up as a campaign volunteer or make a contribution to help ensure the success of everything for which you have been fighting so long now.
It is with the deepest of respect that I honor each of my worthy opponents for the Libertarian Party nomination. It is with the deepest of admiration that I thank each of my many friends who have worked so hard to bring us to this point.
It is up to each and everyone one of us to ensure that the voice of Liberty, the voice of our Founding Fathers, the voice of America is not only heard, but clearly represented in each and every polling booth in the country on Election Day.
With the humblest of thanks,

Bob

According to the Bob Barr Campaign Website at http://www.bobbarr2008.com/ and News OK at http://newsok.com , The Libertarian Party of Oklahoma is attempting to collect 43,913 signatures before the 15th of July 2008 in order for Bob Barr to appear in the ballot. It remains to be seen whether it can be done. Oklahoma is another notorious state when it comes to ballot access.

Dear Friend,

Green Party: Democrats' health care reform plans = Corporate Backers

by AlvarezGalloso @ 2008-05-30 - 14:32:30

Democrats' health care reform plans are designed to satisfy corporate
backers, not solve the health care crisis, say Greens

• Green candidates call Single-Payer/Medicare For All the only plan to
help working Americans who need care most

• Corporate campaign money and sponsorship of Dem and GOP conventions
will banish real health care and campaign finance reform, say Greens

WASHINGTON, DC -- Green Party leaders and candidates said today that
the health care reform plans offered by Democratic candidates Barack
Obama and Hillary Clinton are designed to benefit insurance and
pharmaceutical corporations -- including contributors to their own
campaigns -- rather than American people who need coverage and
treatment.

The Green Party and its candidates strongly support the Single-Payer
national health care plan, also called Medicare For All
(http://www.gp.org/organize/sicko.html).

"Anyone who believes that Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama will offer
real reform in the next administration has been misled by the
Democratic Party leadership and their shills in the media. Ms.
Clinton and Mr. Obama are among the highest recipients of money from
insurance firms, HMOs, and drug manufacturers [source: Center for
Responsive Politics, http://www.opensecrets.org]," said Jody Grage,
treasurer of the Green Party of the United States.

"Except for a handful who are marginalized by their own party, most
Democratic candidates are running to prevent real health care reform.
They intend to keep control over our health care in the hands of
corporate insurance firms and HMOs who make their profits by denying
treatment. That's why over 45 million Americans don't have health
coverage and millions more can't get the treatment they need even
though they have insurance," said Ms. Grage.

Ms. Clinton's $110-billion-per-year 'mandatory coverage' plan would
offer a gigantic subsidy for the HMO-insurance industry, while
shifting the burden -- and the blame for lack of coverage -- onto
people who desperately need health care. Mr. Obama rejects the
Single-Payer option and has promised that his plan would sustain the
HMO and insurance industry.

Greens noted that the 2008 Democratic and Republican national
conventions will be funded by numerous corporate sponsors seeking
favors from the next White House and Congress ("DNC sponsorships raise
questions on motivations," Rocky Mountain News, March 12, 2008,
http://www.rockymountainnews.com/news/2008/may/12/dnc-sponsorships-raise-questions-on-motivations/).

The Green Party, which accepts no corporate contributions, will hold
its national convention in Chicago, July 10-13
(http://www.greenparty2008.org). The candidates for the Green
presidential nomination -- Jesse Johnson, Cynthia McKinney, Kent
Mesplay, and Kat Swift -- all support Single-Payer.

"There's no incentive for either Democrats or Republicans to pursue
real campaign finance reform and get corporate money out of politics
and public policy, because they both benefit from the current system.
The only way to shock the system and get real reform is by voting for
Greens, giving a noncorporate party seats in Congress and state
legislatures, and showing the Democrats that they can't take their
seats for granted," said Bob Kinsey, Colorado Green candidate for the
US Senate (http://www.kinseyforsenate.org).

"Greens are the only party with the solution for the health care
crisis. Democrats and Republicans have nothing to offer when it comes
to health care, except more denial of treatment, more financial ruin
for working Americans who suffer a serious emergency, and big bucks
for corporate cronies," Mr. Kinsey added.

The Single-Payer/Medicare For All would guarantee every American
health care regardless of age, income, employment, or prior medical
condition; allow choice of health care provider; provide low-cost or
no-cost treatment and prescriptions (including complementary and
alternative medicine); and cost low- and middle-income Americans far
less than they now pay for private or employer-based coverage by
eliminating insurance and HMO company overhead. To contact Green
health care leaders in the Green Party Speakers Bureau, visit

HUCKABEE: REPUBLICANISM IS ANTI AMERICAN

by AlvarezGalloso @ 2008-05-29 - 20:41:07

HUCKABEE: REPUBLICANISM IS ANTI AMERICAN

I am writing this article in response to the slanderous accusations of a certain person called Mr. Mike Huckabee who supposedly was a Governor of Arkansas, a Presidential Nominee Candidate during the Election Primaries of 2008, and is a guitar player on an amateur scale. I am also writing in response to the Libertarian Party News Release concerning the slanderous accusations by Mr. Huckabee.

Mr. Huckabee, you campaigned as a promoter of the Bible and you forget the part of the Ten Commandments that states “Thou Shalt Not Bear False Witness against Your Neighbours” by calling the Libertarians “Anti American, Soulless, and a Threat”. Mr. Huckabee, you forgot about the Biblical Verse in which Jesus Christ challenged the Pharisees by saying: “He who is without sin cast the first stone”.

Mr. Huckabee has no right to pass judgement on the Libertarian Party when the Republican Party as well as the Democratic Party has practiced Anti Americanism during its one hundred and fifty years of dominance. The Republican and Democratic Party have created the wars in order to sustain their dominance. The Republicans and Democrats have created hatred amongst the classes, races, different ethnic groups in order to further their agenda of hatred and Anti Americanism under the mask of a perverse form of patriotism.

Mr. Huckabee, you forgot that Arkansas also had ballot access laws that discriminated against the Libertarian and other alternative parties leaving the American people with no other alternatives. Mr. Huckabee, the Republicans and Democrats have destroyed the soul of the Republic in America.

Mr. Huckabee, the Republicans and Democrats are the reincarnation of all of the terrible despots of the world from Herod of Idumea to Adolph Hitler and Joseph Stalin. Who cannot forget the fact that certain areas of North Carolina are denying help in assisting Latin Women living in these areas from delivering their babies? [This was taken from the webpage of Terra].

The Libertarian Party under the Barr and Root Leadership is the only hope for salvation in America. The Libertarian Party under the Barr and Root Leadership are based on the concepts of Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson. The Libertarian Party stands for the concept of peace, prosperity, and defending the interests of the United States of America within the borders of America.

The Libertarian Party under the Barr and Root Leadership wants a Free Trade that benefits all instead of the few [such as the Elite in Washington]. Mr. Huckabee, I suggest that you should read up on the Libertarian Party or go to Mr. Mc Cain and see if he is willing to accept you as his running mate.

FROM THE LIBERTARIAN PARTY:
Huckabee is right: Libertarianism is a threat to Republican hypocrisy

Party responds to former GOP presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee's comments about the "threat" of libertarianism

Washington, D.C. - In a recent interview with Huffington Post contributor Will Mari, former GOP presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee called libertarianism "not an American message," stating libertarianism was a "soulless type of economic conservatism" and a threat to Republicanism. In response, Libertarian Party spokesperson Andrew Davis issued the following statement:
"Huckabee is right that Libertarianism is a threat to Republicanism. The Republican Party, with the help of people like Sen. John McCain, has done nothing but increase the scope and power of government while throwing fiscal responsibility to the wind. It's the 'compassionate conservatism' touted by people like Huckabee, McCain and President Bush that has caused a soaring national debt and a society where prisons are overflowing because of Republican 'compassion.' Libertarianism is unquestionably the American message because libertarianism is the only political message that empowers the American people by giving them more control over their lives and their wallets. Huckabee proves once again that there is very little difference in the messages of Republicans and Democrats, and shows that McCain and Obama might as well be running in the same political party."
The Libertarian Party's presidential nominee for 2008 is former Congressman Bob Barr.

The Libertarian Party is America's third largest political party, founded in 1971 as an alternative to the two main political parties. You can find more information on the Libertarian Party by visiting www.LP.org. The Libertarian Party proudly stands for smaller government, lower taxes and more freedom.

Stop Big Media

by AlvarezGalloso @ 2008-05-29 - 20:29:04

We're starting summer early by turning up the heat on corporate media. Today, the StopBigMedia.com Coalition is launching an extraordinary series of actions that will gather momentum over the coming months.

Our goal: stop conglomerates like Rupert Murdoch's News Corp. from controlling media in our communities.

We scored an amazing victory two weeks ago when the Senate voted overwhelmingly to reject the Federal Communications Commission's latest handout of local outlets to Big Media. Our senators heard the more than a quarter-million activists who contacted Washington.

Now, the fight has moved to the House, where we're building support for a similar resolution.

Tell Your Representative: Turn Up the Heat Against Big Media
Start now by clicking on the above link and urging your representative to support the bipartisan "Resolution of Disapproval" (H.J. Res. 79). A victory in the House is possible only with massive public participation.
Taking this fast action is just the beginning. Over the summer, activists from every corner of the country will be delivering thousands of these letters to their representatives' doorsteps. We'll also schedule "in-district meetings" between citizens and their members while Congress is in recess and representatives are home to hear from their constituents.

By taking action now you'll get our summer campaign started early:
Take Action Now: Stop Big Media in the House
Over the past year, activists like you have been urging Congress to stop runaway consolidation. Now we're taking it to the next level -- meeting face-to-face with our elected leaders and making certain that they stand with us against Big Media.

Turn up the summer heat by taking action today!

Makoni and National Unity

by AlvarezGalloso @ 2008-05-29 - 18:59:07

Simba Makoni who was an Independent Candidate in the March 2008 Presidential Election in Zimbabwe has announced that Mugabe [ZANU-PF] and Tsvangerai [MDC] will not receive his support in the run off election. The reason is based on his desire for a National Unity Government and his disagreement with the Run Off Election. Makoni was a former Finance Minister under the Mugabe ZANU-PF Government who came in third place with 8.3% of the vote in the March 2008 Presidential Elections. I have questions about Makoni.

1. Does Mr. Makoni bear any responsibility for his actions when he served as Finance Minister from 2000 to 2002?

2. Why did it take Mr. Makoni so long to leave ZANU-PF to form his own party?

3. Is Mr. Makoni making this declaration from the heart or is it because he still has some feelings for Mugabe ZANU-PF?

4. How will this affect the situation in Zimbabwe [including the run off election and the already tense situation]

Carolina del Norte/ North Carolina

by AlvarezGalloso @ 2008-05-29 - 16:47:22

It has come to my attention that certain counties in North Carolina are not helping pregnant Latin Women in childbirth. I am not surprised taking into account that North Carolina under the Republicans and Democrats have violated human and civil rights of its minorities in the past and the Libertarian Party [as well as the Green Party] in the past and present. If Amnesty International and other International Organizations that promote Human Rights actually want to promote human rights, they should investigate this act of genocide and place Republicans and Democrats on trial for genocide and acts against humanity.

Wexler: Rice and Rove In Contempt

by AlvarezGalloso @ 2008-05-29 - 16:39:27

Last night, significant news broke that directly impacts our push for Impeachment Hearings and a possible Inherent Contempt charge for Bush Administration officials such as Karl Rove:

Former White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan has revealed in his upcoming book that:

• Karl Rove, Scooter Libby, and Vice President Cheney lied about their role in revealing the identity of Valerie Plame Wilson – actions easily amounting to obstruction of Justice.

McClellan also admitted that:

• There was a coordinated effort within the Bush Administration to use propaganda to pump up the case for the Iraq war and hide the projected costs of the war from the public.

Scott McClellan must be called to testify under oath before the House Judiciary Committee to tell Congress and the American people everything he knows about this massive effort by the White House to deceive this nation into war.

Last week, a subpoena was issued for Karl Rove to testify before the Judiciary Committee. It appears he will take every legal action to block this subpoena. The truth is that Congress has the right – and obligation – to hold him accountable now - not months or years from now. It is long past time to pass Inherent Contempt and bring Rove, Libby and others before Congress.

We simply cannot ignore these recent developments, nor should we postpone serious inquiry until after the next election.

Your commitment to accountability for the Bush/Cheney Administration, and the support of 230,000 other Americans who signed up at wexlerwantshearings.com, has inspired and motivated me in my effort to hold impeachment hearings for Vice President Dick Cheney and Inherent Contempt for Rove and others. During the past months I have been a tireless and dogged advocate of this vitally important cause.

Many of you have written me, asking for an update on where we stand with regards to impeachment hearings. I know most of you believe - as I do - that impeachment hearings for Vice President Cheney – are not only justified, but that it is our constitutional obligation to look into the serious allegations of wrongdoing that have been raised. This is especially true based on the newest revelations from Scott McClellan.

I believe that it is the duty of Congress to pursue impeachment whenever there's significant evidence of wrongdoing, be it by Republicans or Democrats, regardless of the timing of elections or the current political environment.

Some of you have written me demanding that I deliver hearings or impeachment. As hard as I have been fighting for this cause, I cannot make impeachment happen by myself. What I can do, and what I have been doing at every turn, is trying to communicate two simple messages to my colleagues:

• the serious allegations of wrongdoing and the clear-cut rationale for impeachment hearings;and
• the fact that the public will support our efforts when Congress boldly acts on the side of justice and accountability.

Unfortunately, to date, these arguments have not been enough to convince even a majority of the liberal and progressive Members of Congress to support impeachment hearings. In addition, the leadership of the Democratic Party in Congress genuinely feels that pursuing impeachment will jeopardize our congressional agenda and threaten gains in the November elections. Although I genuinely disagree with this view, to date I have been unable to convince them to change this policy.

I understand the challenges that we are up against, and I recognize the odds that we face. Nevertheless, I remain unfazed and unyielding.

This new evidence from Scott McClellan could be the tipping point – but we must move quickly. I will use the McClellan admissions to help convince my colleagues that we must hold impeachment hearings.

Regardless, I will continue to fight for progressive values and our Constitution. I will do everything I can to pursue accountability for criminal actions taken by this Administration and this Vice President. I will be a furious opponent to any expansion of this misguided war, and I will fight against the use of torture by our government and to protect our civil liberties here at home.

Most of all, I will continue my efforts to convince my fellow members of Congress and voters, that we should not be a party of passivity - but that we succeed when we present the public with stark choices that are based on the guarantees in our Constitution, and not on the politics of the moment.

I will continue - at every pass - to call for impeachment and accountability. While I wish more of my colleagues supported our movement, we must not let our discouragement lead to apathy and distraction in this important election year when we must break free from eight long years of illegalities, corporate handouts, and a tragic and devastating war.

We should not end the calls for impeachment. I will push against the crimes of the Bush Administration whenever I am provided the opportunity. I will use my role on the Judiciary Committee to take on Administration officials – like I have done with Condoleezza Rice, Attorney Generals Gonzalez and Mukasey, and FBI Director Mueller.

I have not given up our fight to hold this Administration accountable and neither can you. I am grateful for your patriotism and your support. I'll continue to keep you informed and part of the conversation.

Sincerely,

Congressman Robert Wexler

Great News from the Libertarian Party USA

by AlvarezGalloso @ 2008-05-29 - 16:38:33

May 28, 2008
From the Libertarian Party:

Dear Libertarian,

This past weekend, more than 650 Libertarian delegates from across the country came together in Denver, CO to select our ticket for the 2008 presidential race. Through much debate, both on the stage and on the floor, our delegates selected one of the strongest tickets in the 37-year history of the Libertarian Party. Former Congressman Bob Barr, and small businessman Wayne Allyn Root will be leading the Party into what could possibly be the biggest year for Libertarians since Ed Clark ran in 1980!

However, our candidates are only as strong as the Libertarians who support them, and with your help, we can make this year one for the record books!

As you well know, the Libertarian Party always starts off a few paces back from the main two parties because of our battles with ballot access and funding. It takes an incredibly large sum of money to put the party on an even playing field in each state, and after that is all said and done, we still have the campaign to fund!

In the post-nomination excitement, as Libertarians united behind our candidate and began to turn towards the real enemy of the establishment, more than $64,000 was donated at the 2008 National Convention Presidential Banquet. Our gracious donors recognized that this was going to be a banner-year for the Libertarian Party, and wanted to make sure the tracks were laid for the Barr/Root train to roll loudly into Washington.

But this is just a fraction of what we need to ensure the Libertarian Party breaks every third-party record this year. We now put the challenge to you, our generous donors, volunteers and activists: Will you help build the tracks to success in 2008?

The average donation at the presidential banquet was $266, and we are asking if you can match this amount with your gracious donation that can be made online here. If you cannot, please donate any amount that you are able.

All donations are needed, and every one will be put to good use.

Thank you,

Andrew Davis

A Message from Joe Garcia

by AlvarezGalloso @ 2008-05-28 - 14:51:21

A few days ago, Joe Garcia asked you to call upon Mario Diaz- Balart to repudiate his vote against medical benefits for veterans. As a result of your overwhelming response, it appears as though Mario Diaz-Balart has had second thoughts about showing up to debate Joe next week.

Mario Diaz-Balart has always found the time to fly to Washington to vote against healthcare for kids, funding for schools and benefits for veterans. Now he says that a debate that was on his calendar for over a month has created a "schedule conflict."

Tell Mario Diaz-Balart this is unacceptable. If he has time to vote against healthcare for kids and benefits for our troops, then he better make time to explain himself to his constituents:

http://joegarcia08.com/WheresMario

Mario's decision to skip this debate and the opportunity to talk to working families doesn't surprise us. After all, how can he possibly explain that his campaign is funded by big oil companies while Florida's families are paying $4 for a gallon of gas? What excuse will he have for opposing the new G.I. Bill?

Mario can run, but he can't hide.

Tell Mario Diaz-Balart that if he shows up to Washington to pick up his paycheck and health insurance courtesy of taxpayers, than he should make time to speak to working families.

http://joegarcia08.com/WheresMario

I am proud of the campaign Joe Garcia is running. It's a grassroots campaign where we go out into the community and talk to people about the challenges they face every day. Our campaign is about offering our community a new path forward and real solutions to the problems we face.

Mario Diaz-Balart has decided to run a divisive campaign. He's decided to distract voters from his record of voting with the Bush administration more than 90% of the time. But it won't work.

Let's send Mario Diaz-Balart packing.

http://joegarcia08.com/WheresMario

Unlike Mario Diaz-Balart, Joe Garcia will attend next week's debate. Even if the podium next to him is empty, he'll be standing up for you, because you have stood up with him.

Thank you so everything you do.

Our family understands the importance of
our troops because we have someone
serving in Iraq. This is why we believe
that when we send brave men and women
to war, we have a solemn obligation to
see that they get the hero's welcome they
have earned when they return home. This
includes benefits like grants to go to
college and proper medical attention.

Apparently, Mario Diaz-Balart disagrees with us.
We were appalled to learn that just last week he voted twice
against funding a new G.I. Bill, medical care for veterans,
treatment for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and even
funeral services for our fallen soldiers.

Even Ileana Ros-Lehtinen understood the importance of supporting
our veterans and joined other members of Congress, like Senator
Jim Webb whose son serves in the military, in supporting this
important bill. This was a simple piece of legislation with one
clear goal: give our troops the hero's welcome they deserve.

Tell Mario Diaz-Balart to support our troops. Tell him his vote is
unacceptable:

Mario Diaz-Balart has voted in favor of the Iraq War at every
opportunity – rubber-stamping the Bush Administration's
disastrous entanglement over and over again. The fact that Mario
Diaz-Balart votes to send our troops to war, but then against the
benefits they deserve when they come home, is deplorable. It also
explains why Americans have lost trust in their government.

If there has ever been a sad reminder of what's wrong with
Washington, this is it.

Thanks to you, real change is on the horizon and Mario Diaz-
Balart's days of short-changing our troops and their families are
numbered. But we need your help - we need you to speak out.
Tell Mario Diaz-Balart that our troops deserve a hero's welcome
and the support of their Congress:

Thank you so much for being the driving force behind our
campaign.

FIFA expulsa a Irak

by AlvarezGalloso @ 2008-05-27 - 20:09:29

by AlvarezGalloso @ 2008-05-27 - 20:08:45

Zimbabwe Heats Up

by AlvarezGalloso @ 2008-05-27 - 18:34:49

Zimbabwe has not escaped the eye of the public as it begins its run off election against a background of tension and persecutions. The Zimbabwe Situation has reported an increase in the persecution of priests and opposition members. Even though Mugabe has stated that he will stand down if he loses the run off election, ZEC [Zimbabwe Electoral Commission] has been destroying ballots. There have been also reports of Mugabe having visited Singapore in order to undergo treatment for Prostate Cancer. The MDC has stated that only a presence of a large observation force and a massive turnout voting for MDC will help defeat Mugabe and ZANU-PF.

FIFA Bans Iraq

by AlvarezGalloso @ 2008-05-27 - 18:12:53

According to a Press TV release on the 26th of May 2007, FIFA has announced that it is banning Iraq from International Football as a response to the decision of the US Installed Iraqi Government to abolish all of the Sports Organization in Iraq. This runs contrary to the rules of FIFA and International Football in which Sports and Politics must be separated. What the US Installed Iraqi Government has done is an injustice to those who love sports. The people who suffer the most is the Iraqi National Football Team who won the Asian Cups after defeating Saudi Arabia. If this situation does not resolve, Iraq will have to forfeit all of its games leading to the 2010 World Cup because of the myopic views of a Puppet Government in Iraq.
