Manchester City: Yes ; Thaksin: No

by AlvarezGalloso @ 2008-05-01 - 20:42:34

After the news of the Ex Corrupt Prime Minister of Thailand and Current Owner of Manchester City Thaksin Shinawatra announcing that he will sack Manchester City Manager Sven Goren Eriksson reverberated across the world of football, there are many people who have come to support Sven Goren Eriksson. Peter Reid [a former midfielder for the English National Team and Everton as well as Manager of Manchester City from 1990 to 1993] and Richard Bevan who is Chief Executive of the League Managers Association are the chief supporters of Sven Goren Eriksson.

Peter Reid said that Thaksin Shinawatra would make a mistake that would place Manchester City back to the beginning and challenged him to “get a life”. Peter Reid also told Thaksin Shinawatra that there is a difference between running a country and running a football club. Richard Bevan challenged Thaksin Shinawatra to maintain Sven Goren Eriksson for twenty years in the same vein as Manchester United has done for Sir Alex Ferguson.

I agree with Peter Reid and Richard Bevan in their support of Manchester City. I also support Manchester City in their fight to keep Sven Goren Eriksson as Manager. I also would like to comment and add a warning for Thaksin Shinawatra. Thaksin Shinawatra, you know nothing about football but you know your money. Thaksin Shinawatra, you do not have the interest of football nor of the Manchester City Team in your heart and soul. How can you Thaksin Shinawatra have a football team in your heart and soul when you did not even have a heart and soul for the country of your birth Thailand? Thaksin Shinawatra, you are a hypocrite because you sign Eriksson to a contract which requires Manchester City to be in the top ten and the team is at the top nine at the present tense. Thaksin Shinawatra you are frustrated person who is not an expert at football and is not an expert at politics since your favourite sport is stepping on the toes of people. Thaksin Shinawatra, I agree with Peter Reid in that you should “get a life”. Thaksin Shinawatra, why don’t you leave Sven Goren Eriksson alone, sell your interests in Manchester City, and prove to the world that you are “innocent” of the charges against you while you were Prime Minister of Thailand? If you decide to sack Sven Goren Eriksson, Manchester City and the football world will hate you. Of course, you have given us reason to hate you.

USA Backs Down on Breaking Ties with Belarus

by AlvarezGalloso @ 2008-05-01 - 19:40:45

According to BBC News, the US Government denies breaking relations with Belarus and expelling its diplomats. Tom Casey [State Department Spokesperson] said that talks are still ocurring between Washington and Minsk. It has been seen as a positive move although it is a wait and see situation.

US Breaks Ties with Belarus

by AlvarezGalloso @ 2008-05-01 - 18:23:58

According to BBC News, The US Government has given Belarus until the 16th of May 2008 to close its embassy and consulate in the USA. Belarus Diplomats have also been expelled from the USA as a response to the expulsion of US Diplomats from Belarus. Personally, the breaking of diplomatic relations between the two countries is not going to help the situation in Belarus. The same would apply to a blockade. In fact, Belarus has diplomatic relations with Cuba, Venezuela, Russia, Syria, and Iran [as well as other countries that used to belong to the USSR]. Attempts to contact the Belarus Embassy in Washington DC and Belarus Radio and TV were unsuccessful.

Gono: Zimbabwe is Broke

by AlvarezGalloso @ 2008-05-01 - 16:32:55

Gideon Gono [Central Bank Governor of the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe and the person who collaborated with Mugabe in overprinting paper money and hyperinflation] announced that Zimbabwe was broke. Mr. Gono also announced that he is not removing the official exchange rate of One US Dollar = 30,000 Zimbabwe Dollars. This revelation was published in the Quarterly Report of the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe amid the fact that mining, tourism, and tobacco [which are the staple of Zimbabwe's economy] suffered extreme losses.

Mr. Gono also announced that the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe is reliquishing its monopoly on the control of the flow of hard currency into the country. Also included in the announcement was Mr. Gono's proposal of a hard currency in a willing seller willing buyer which would draw hard currency in the black market to the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe.

by AlvarezGalloso @ 2008-05-01 - 16:31:27

Angus Shaw of the Associated Press reported in Harare, Zimbabwe; Deputy Information Minister Bright Matonga announced that the MDC [Tsvangarai] won with 47% with ZANU-PF [Mugabe] in second place with 43%. Mr. Matonga also announced that there will be a run off. Tsvangerai announced that he will not take part in the run off by saying: "If Robert Mugabe cannot accept the real results now, what's the guarantee that he will accept the real results after the runoff?"

Green Mayor Brings Open Government to Greenwich, NY

Green Mayor Brings Open Government to Greenwich, NY

David Doonan was considering a run for public office last year, but not necessarily for Mayor. But when then Mayor Chris McCormick, was quoted in the local paper as saying "things are easier to get done when the public doesn't show up" Doonan knew he had to run. "That was really the turning point for me". Doonan said, "People felt like they were shut out of the process, that decisions were being made without public input". Doonan made Open Government the central issue of his campaign. It turns out that was the right focus. Doonan won the election with more than 70 percent of the vote. The incumbent, running for a Trustee position, garnered only 8 percent.

Since taking office on April 7th, Mayor Doonan has already lived up to his promise to make Greenwich, NY's government more open and accountable. He has instituted video taping of all Village Council meetings which will then be available on-line. He's also added a Mayors report so that the public knows what he does and what he is responsible for. Doonan, a freelance web designer (Doonan is webmanager for the Green Party of the United States), maintains a list of his clients on his campaign website. "Many elected officials in NY who have second jobs do not disclose who their clients are, leaving the potential for graft. Publishing my client list is one way to ensure transparency when it comes to awarding village contracts. This is one way to counter the traditional power structure".

Doonan says that building community participation and public service were central to his campaign and to his job as Mayor. "If I had won the Mayor's race, but had not persuaded others to step up and run for office, I would have considered it a failure. But I got two people to run, and they are now serving with me as Village Trustees". He's also convinced community members to join the zoning board of appeals.

Besides winning the Mayor's race, Doonan's campaign had the added benefit of creating a new Green Party local which meets monthly.

When asked what advice he has for prospective Green Candidates, Doonan stresses the need to focus on local issues that effect the community you're running in. "Not that you should hide from the larger issues, I kept a 'Bring the Troops Home' sign in my yard during my entire campaign, but find out what the local issues are. You won't win if you don't address local concerns. "Also, let them know who you are. My race was officially non-partisan, but I campaigned with a Green Party button the whole time. I never shied away from the fact that I was a Green Party member, the webmanager for the Green Party, and also a member of the IWW".

Doonan included a union bug at the bottom of his website. He thinks it is particularly important for Greens to include union bugs on their campaign materials. "If we want to get labor union endorsements, we need to show that we support organized labor".

Doonan received financial support for his campaign from both the GPUS Coordinated Campaign Committee's campaign grant program and the Green Party of New York.

Greens win 60% of races this year in USA

by AlvarezGalloso @ 2008-05-01 - 13:17:07

Greens win 60% of races this year

In late 2006 Brent McMillan, Political Director of GPUS did an analysis of each states history of fielding candidates. He used this information to set up a challenge for each state. Based on the past ability to field candidates what would a field of one thousand candidates look like on a state by state basis. You can find his results at http://www.gp.org/elections.shtml under the heading "1000 Candidate Challenge 2008". This is only a suggested challenge for each state to commit to running candidates to fulfill this challenge. Many states have taken up this challenge though.

On Tuesday April 1st Greens ran for office in Massachusetts and Wisconsin. Greens won 13 of the 22 races run so far this year- that is 60% success rate. There are more to come yet in this cycle. Watch GreenLine for updates.

In Massachusetts:

On March 3, Jill Stein (I) won her re-election to Town Meeting Seat in Lexington, MA

On Tuesday April 1st, Robert Crowner and Vincent O'Conner (I) won their elections for Town Meeting Seat in Amherst, MA.

In Wisconsin:

Presidential Signing Statements -- Tool of Tyranny: George Phillies

by AlvarezGalloso @ 2008-05-01 - 13:07:54

George Phillies for President 2008

Presidential Signing Statements -- Tool of Tyranny
Worcester, Mass, April 30: Libertarian Presidential candidate George Phillies today condemned the use of so-called Presidential signing statements to defy the law of the land. "Our Constitution provides a clear path to settle disagreements between our Congress and the President," he reminded Americans. "Congress passes a law. A President who disagrees may veto it. Congress may then over-ride the President's veto. The Founding Fathers knew that the united wisdom of dozens of Senators and far more Representatives is overwhelmingly greater than the wisdom of a lone man in the Oval Office. That's why they set into our Constitution the fundamental principal that in a dispute between Congress and the President, Congress must in the end prevail.
"In our Constitutional system of government," Phillies said, "there is no room for a President to disobey the law. A President who feels a law is unconstitutional has one legal path: He seeks a ruling from the courts. That's why they're there. A President who refuses to obey our laws by issuing 'signing statements' has only one objective: He is trying to exercise one-man-rule of our country; in short, he wants to become the American dictator.
"I am saddened to see a Libertarian candidate who proposes to go against our Constitution," Phillies said. "My opponent Wayne Root proposes to shrink our budget by using 'impoundment,' a process found nowhere in the checks and balances of our Constitution. I agree there are precedents for his proposal, notably the vast number of George Bush 'signing statements.' But Bush signing statements are just announcements that George Bush and his cabinet cronies are plotting to break the law. Those are bad precedents that we Libertarians should reject.
"In contrast, if elected, I will obey the law of the land. That starts with the Constitutional duty of the President to see that our laws are faithfully executed, even the ones he does not like. To end the Federal overspending that will reduce our grandchildren to debt slavery, I will use the Presidential veto and the bully pulpit of the White House. However, I will not open the door for future Presidential tyrants who think they, not our system of laws, are the supreme law of our land."

Grupo Soberano de Hawaii Recuperan Palacio Robado por EEUU

by AlvarezGalloso @ 2008-05-01 - 03:33:33

Hawaii Independence Group Occupies Former Royal Palace in Honolulu

by AlvarezGalloso @ 2008-05-01 - 03:26:58

It has come to the attention of the Alvarez Galloso News Hour that The Hawaiian Kingdom Movement has taken over the Iolani Palace in Honolulu Hawaii and are preparing to conduct business as the legitimate government of Hawaii. Iolani Palace was the Royal Palace of the Kingdom of Hawaii until the Americans took over Hawaii in a coup in 1893 and proclaimed a so called "republic" before adding Hawaii as a territory and state. While it is inevitable that the protestors may be arrested, the protests have ocurred peacefully. It is considered surreal that the same people in Hollywood and the West protest against other countries yet are not willing to discuss Hawaii, Lakota Oyate, or Vermont.

Mugabe and ZANU-PF on the ropes?

by AlvarezGalloso @ 2008-05-01 - 03:05:56

It has been confirmed that the leaked result shows Tsvangerai leading Mugabe by four points with MDC 47% and Mugabe 43%.
