ZEC: Zimbabwe Runoff Elections to be Held in 2009

by AlvarezGalloso @ 2008-05-08 - 14:17:37

One of the outside observers has stated that Zimbabwe at its present condition cannot have a free and fair runoff. This is not a surprise. Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission has proposed next year as the time for the runoff election. This would give Mugabe more time to commit electoral cleansing.

Futbol de Zimbabwe/Zimbabwe Football

by AlvarezGalloso @ 2008-05-08 - 14:16:58

It appears that Dynamo of Zimbabwe and the Highlanders of Bulawayo have found cash for their games. I do not know how it transpired but one has to think that maybe ZANU-PF [Mugabe] wants to use the games as a distraction from their problems. Personally, I think that football is still alive and kicking in Zimbabwe. My best wishes to Dynamo and Highlanders.

Eriksson & Thaksin III [ES] [EN]

by AlvarezGalloso @ 2008-05-08 - 14:16:16

It appears that Eriksson has been conversing with Benfica about the possibilities of a third time as manager. While Eriksson and Benfica are not commenting about what is transpiring, Thaksin Shinawatra has decided to play more psychological musical chairs by adding Mourinho as a possible manager. After reading about Thaksin Shinawatra and his psychological musical chairs with coaches and Manchester City, I have decided to tell Manchester City Supporters to attempt to buy back the club from this irresponsible owner who is not fit to own a Premier League Club.

Yoanni Sanchez [ES] [EN]

by AlvarezGalloso @ 2008-05-08 - 14:15:36

According to reports from the Univision Webpage, Yoanni Sanchez has been prohibited from leaving Cuba to receive the Ortega and Gassett Prize for Journalism in Spain. For those who do not know Yoanni Sanchez, I had the pleasure of visiting her webpage called Generation Y which deals with the frustrations of everyday life in Cuba for her generation. For a Government that claims to be reformist but prohibits one of their citizens from leaving is a disgrace. Yoanni Sanchez deserves to be mentioned for courageously talking about the conditions of her generation in Cuba inside Cuba [a place where even the Internet is controlled]. It is for this reason that I share this story with the public at large.

Phillies: Private Enterprise Can Solve Energy Cost Issues

Phillies: Private Enterprise Can Solve Energy Cost Issues

Worcester, Mass, May 7: Libertarian Presidential candidate George Phillies proposed that the Federal government should actually do something to improve the energy price situation. "Sensible Libertarian approaches have two important features," he said. "First, they are based on reality. Second, they do not ask the Federal government to do things it does poorly."
"The rapid climb in energy prices has two main causes. First, petroleum production has been nearly static for several years. Second, India, China, and other places are entering the modern wealthy world; their energy demand is soaring.
"There are few credible opportunities for more oil drilling in America. We'll be lucky to replace old oil fields. Foreign competition will only increase. Our real choice is to move to alternative energy sources. Fortunately, from sunny southwestern deserts to the windy northern border, America is enormously well placed to do this.
"I propose that Uncle Sam should make an offer to private enterprise: We will give you long-term, fixed price contracts at competitive rates to buy electricity from new, renewable sources. Uncle Sam will offer to buy up to its entire energy consumption.
"The government won't try to do research or build its own power plants. That's what private enterprise does best. However, those long-term contracts are guarantees private firms can take to the bank for financing. At present manufacturing rates for wind and solar-concentrating generators and wind and solar storage facilities, ,y offer needs years to implement. As it is implemented, Federal demand for hydrocarbons will plummet, reducing market competition with private Americans."
George Phillies is a candidate for the Libertarian Presidential nomination. He's a physicist, with degrees from MIT;he teaches at the Worcester polytechnic Institute.
